Really Long Movies

*These are just my opinions, nobody has paid me, unfortunately, to comment on these films!

Can someone please tell me when movies got so long. Over the Christmas holidays, I saw American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street. Both were really good acting in complex roles and had some funny moments, but I think what took away from both these "acclaimed" films, were how long they were!! With previews, they were over 3 hours.
Not. great.

Jennifer Lawrence made me smile a lot throughout American Hustle. Even though she plays a dysfunctional character, she always has that presence that makes you want to be best friends with her...even when she's macking on mobsters, getting high of the fumes of her nail polish and drinking one too many glasses of wine.

I am not sure if my bladder is getting more overactive, I am becoming more ADHD or my bones are just getting more crochety but these 3 hour previews + movie deals are not my cup of tea. Whatever happened to the 90 minute rom com, you guys? If I can tell that I am sitting in the theater too long, the movie is too long. I didn't have a problem in Catching Fire or last year's Zero Dark Thirty because the movie's events captivated me so much. I didn't have as much time to realize I wanted to pee my pants.

Additionally, I instantly had issues with both movies because they both condoned cheating in committed relationships. They somewhat formed the plot, but it still bothered me. Well, they didn't necessary condone it, but it was done a bit non-chalantly for my taste. I liked how Wolf actually showed some repercussions for such behavior...sort of.

All in all: Keep movies short and sweet or you're gonna lose audiences, movie producers! I am definitely going to check the times on the next movie I spend money on. I can't spend my meager earnings on over three hours that leave me depressed due to humanity's shortcomings in addition to low blood sugar. Sheesh.

Happy Monday everyone.

  1. I didn't get to see Wolf On Wall Street yet, however I saw American Hustle and I couldn't agree more. The only thing good was Jennifer Lawrence, as pure usual.

  2. I just saw Wolf On Wall Street last night. It definitely was LONG. I think some of it was unnecessary and didn't need to be in the movie. BUT, Leo to me was on point. Such a crazy character. He's such an awesome actor! I'm a little tired at work today because we decided to see the movie after dinner at 9:15. We didn't leave there until after midnight!

  3. I haven't seen either, but I love me some J-Law and Leonardo DiCaprio is THE actor of our time. But I agree with you! Even last night's Downton Abbey premier was 2 HOURS without commercials! Talk about bladder problems… thank god for DVR's and the pause button.

  4. I agree all the way! Especially now that I can legit drink a glass of wine in the theater.. it makes me have to even more quickly than I thought and I miss pivotal moments of the extra long movie, then I take a quick cat nap and wake up to the end of the movie.

  6. i haven't seen Wolf of Wall Street yet, but did see American Hustle over the break and I agree.. way too long, almost the point where I just felt like they had it be super long to try to confuse people. JLaw was flawless, per usual though!
