"I Have Anger Issues" (Kids say the Darndest Things!)

Happy Friday everyone. This week has seemed forever long. Today, I got to meet and work with three new clients at my real person job. (I like to think blogging is my job, but if it was I would be living in a van down by the river). These kids are all siblings and HILARIOUS. Everyone knows kids are silly nuggets and say funny things. However, it is more rare that they say something poignant (at least the kids I come across daily). Today, the 8 year old goes, "I have anger issues". I was very proud of him for saying this because most kids that experience anger either think they a) do not have anger issues and punching a classmate in the face is a legitimate way to handle a problem or b) try to pretend they "never" get angry, hold it in, and eventually punch someone in the face, or worse. I loved how honest this little nugget was and how he is fully aware of a problem. We all have issues. If you think you don't, you're most likely most screwed up of all (go get a shrink). Admitting we are indeed not perfect comes with maturation and self-actualization, and it was so refreshing that a youngster was able to admit a flaw candidly. You can spend years in therapy, take lots of head meds, etc. but I think the most important thing we can do about our issues is be aware of them and try to see when the issue is getting in the way of something in our lives (like a relationship, work or health). This is not easy to do, but I feel like it makes a whole lot easier than it is to ignore our flaws and let them get the best of us. (Especially you angry elves out there...ain't nobody got time for that). On a completely unrelated note, I am participating in #backthatazzup Friday and sharing the song "Round Here" by Florida Georgia Line because it is such a great weekend song. Enjoy and have a well weekend! Round Here by Florida Georgia Line on Grooveshark
