Why America is the Awesomest

I hope everyone had an awesome 4th of July! It was raining and disgusting here, but I still walked in a parade and wore my red, white and blue. I recently finished Season 1 of The Newsroom on HBO (which I discussed on my TV post!) and the season begins with someone asking the main character, "Why do you think America is the best country in the world?"

Here are my top 5 reasons:

 1. Country and Rap music. The US of A started these two amazing genres of music. I think both country and rap, though a bit different, represent different American experiences and lifestyles. People worldwide listen to the music Americans create and produce which is kind of a big deal.

 2. Hot dogs. American food is pretty legit. People say we are a fat country, etc. but we make some delectable cuisine. I also believe Americans invented the deep fryer, and that's just amazing.

 3. We can wear what we want. A lot of countries do not let their citizens dress the way they want to. How TERRIBLE would that be. We are lucky to express ourselves through fashion and that is wonderful, even if some people abuse that right sometimes;)

 4. Reality TV. Though I am not 100% sure reality shows came from America (was there a Real World-esque show in another country before ours?) I am going to just assume that we invented it like we invented rap music and deep fryers. Shows like the Real Housewives franchise, The Real World, Honey Boo Boo, Dance Moms, American Idol and Wicked Tuna let all kinds of people shine all across our 50 states. Though scripted shows can be riveting, there is nothing quite like looking in on other people's trials and triumphs...without even having to leave your house.

 5. We Run Things. Once again, I saved the best for last. The US started out as 13 measly colonies and ended up being the major character on the world stage. I know people say China has more power than us, blah blah blah and maybe they do. Regardless, we started as a group of land controlled by England, and now we are a super power. I always have rooted for the underdog, like the guy from the movie Rudy and Avril Lavinge. Though there have been some historical blunders in American history, we have mostly gone about our growth in a positive way, embracing diversity, change and individuality.

I am ending this post with Toby Keith's "Made In America" video which just makes me smile.

  4. Ugh I hate reality TV. I think it's the worst thing for our culture. Pretty sure rock and roll was created here too.
