What I am Telling You To Watch This Summer

Now usually summer can be a bummer for us television fans, as most of Hollywood is on vaca in the South of France or something during these few months. Fantastic programs such as Nashville, Modern Family and The Mindy Project are on hiatus, but that does NOT mean you have to be stuck doing something naturely outside this summer. Heavens no. I have compiled a list of TV shows you absolutely must tune in for this summer, because they are fantastic. The sun makes you have wrinkles anyway:)

1. The Real Housewives of New Jersey: I can honestly say I have not heard the phrase, "go scratch" on any other TV show/human interaction ever, so this is a must see. The family drama on RHONJ is ridiculous. As is how all the ladies wear fake eyelashes and hair extensions at the gym. We also can't forget my one and only favorite nugget, Miliana Guidice, the real star of the show.  SUNDAYS @ 8/7c on Bravo. Duh.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey

2. True Blood: I have been watching this show since Season 1 and have read most of the Sookie Stackhouse novel series. This isn't teenage Twilight shi* you guys. This show is fo real vampires, shifters, fairies (trust me, it's cool) awesomeness. It brings up some religious and political stuff too, if you pay attention and have an eye for symbolism. For my action fans out there, someone is always popping out of somewhere, getting in someone's head or coming back from the dead...t's awesome. To top it off, everyone speaks in a Lousianian accent! SUNDAYS @ 9/8c on HBO.

3. Ray Donovan: Holy guacamole is all I have to say about this BRAND NEW series on Showtime. This show is really hard to explain, but Ray is a "fixer" in Hollywood which according to my sister is not a "legit" job. So he's kind of like a good mobster, but not kind of bad too. You'll get it when you see it. There are a TON of characters and dysfunctional backstories so stay focused or you'll miss something. I have a feeling this is going to be a great one. SUNDAYS @ 10/9c on Showtime.

4. The Newsroom

4. The Newsroom: This show isn't quite on yet, but I have been watching the first season and it is phenomenal. If you don't like thinking during a show and political-like things, you probably wouldn't enjoy this one. It is about a newscaster and his station that are revamping their nightly news program to be more honest and factual compared to more politically skewed/ratings obsessed news shows. There is a lot of interpersonal banter/drama and it is very high energy. It made me want to become a journalist. It also is funny, which many deep, dark and twisty shows on Showtime or HBO aren't. OH and most importantly, the theme song makes me tear up every time it plays.  I haven't finished Season 1 yet, but Season 2 begins on July 14 on HBO.

5. Dexter: I saved the best for last my friends. This is the FINAL season of Dexter. I have no idea whose terrible idea it was to cancel one of my favorite programs, but if I find them, I am going to give them a piece of my mind! This show is about a lovable serial killer named Dexter who is always one hair away from being exposed. This season this creeepy nuero-psychiatrist knows what Dexter is, but apparently is happy about it, according to the trailer. My favorite part about Dexter is that every season, there are always 1 or 2 main threats, or people trying to kill/reveal Dexter for being a killer. I am a creature of habit so I like when I can rely on things. However, twists and turns usually come out of no where and connect to each other. Just when you think Dexter is a safe serial murderer, someone else is out to get him. I usually have to tell myself to breathe during this show because it is easy to forget. Dexter also makes you wonder if you're psycho for rooting for him even though he stabs people through the heart on a regular basis. But what can I say, he is a likable nugget. SUNDAYS 9/10c on Showtime.

  4. Ohhhh, Dexter...my heart just hurts every time I remember it's the final season. But, wow, the premiere did not disappoint. I think we may finally know the origin of the code & who came up with it. So exciting!

  5. Have you watched the season premiere of Dexter yet? What did you think? I thought it was amazing and look forward to talking about it with you. I think their contracts were probably up and the actors are probably tired of it. It happens. Sucks, but I guess they have to end it someday. I'd rather end it on a good note than a boring one.
